Raritan-based Alternatives said on Monday that Derek Hodkey will assume the position of president and CEO as Nancy Good will retire from the post after more than three decades of service. Since joining Alternatives in 1988, Good worked with vision and commitment and she leaves a legacy of growth and impact within the disability community.
He is a mission-driven executive with more than two decades of experience leading and growing nonprofits and purpose-centered organizations through transformation, systems change, and sustainable impact.
“Nancy’s impact on Alternatives and those with disabilities is immeasurable,” said Morris Malmstrom, Board Chair. “Her leadership has been instrumental in shaping who we are today.”
Good, a Frenchtown (Kingwood Township) resident, also is the appointed vice-chair of the Kingwood Township Housing Board and is a member of the Somerset County Human Services Advisory Council as appointed by the Somerset County Board of Commissioners.
Hodkey, a resident of Woodland Park in Passaic County, comes to Alternatives following nearly five years as president and CEO of Orbis International, a global nonprofit focused on preventing and treating avoidable blindness.
At Orbis, Hodkey led the development and execution of a five-year global strategic plan. He also strengthened fundraising, advanced policy engagement, and cultivated a culture of accountability grounded in integrity, transparency, and measurable impact.
Prior to Orbis, Hodkey was Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Counterpart International, where he oversaw global operations, as well as Executive Director of Global R&D Operations at the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI), where he directed international clinical and research operations. Before transitioning to nonprofit leadership, Hodkey worked in the private sector, specifically with a life sciences consulting firm and in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.
“It is evident that Derek has an enthusiastic approach to new opportunities, and we are eager to work with him to lead Alternatives through this transition,” Malmstrom said.
Alternatives, Inc. provides comprehensive services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, those with mental health diagnoses, as well as individuals and families experiencing homelessness, to enable them to reach their highest level of independence and integration in the community.
