Duato, Garrett, Pullin among Top 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare

All three are repeat honorees for prestigious recognition by Modern Healthcare

J&J Chair and CEO Joaquin Duato, Hackensack Meridian Health CEO Bob Garrett and Virtua Health CEO Dennis Pullin were named to the prestigious 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare list by Modern Healthcare.

In addition to executives at health care and life science companies, the honor includes tech entrepreneurs and global innovators, all of which are noted for their leadership and impact.

All three New Jersey leaders are repeat honorees. Garrett (ranked No. 61 overall) has made the list the past four years, Duato (No. 31) the past three and Pullin (No. 91) the past two.

In recognizing Garrett, Modern Healthcare noted the network’s innovative partnerships with Amazon One Medical, K-Health and the investment of $2.7 billion in hospitals and expanded ambulatory care throughout the state.

His role as chair of the World Economic Forum’s Health and Healthcare Governor’s Community as well as the announcement of the network’s alliance with Apollo Health, India’s largest private health system, also were highlighted.

HMH Board Chair Keith Banks saluted Garrett.

“Bob is truly a visionary and has dedicated his career to delivering high-quality, accessible and convenient health care,’’ he said. “We are privileged to have him leading our organization as we continue to grow and innovate.’’

Since joining Virtua as its leader in 2017, Pullin has shared his insights widely. A frequent speaker at national conferences, he recently wrote a best-selling book, “Suited for Leadership,” containing his advice and lessons learned during his accomplished career. He also hosts a podcast, Here for Good, in which he interviews other transformational leaders from a range of industries and backgrounds.

Pullin was saluted by Virtua Chief Operating Officer John Matsinger.

“Dennis is a passionate, purposeful leader and innovative thinker who’s made vital contributions to both Virtua and the health care industry for many years,” he said. “Dennis is always open to new ideas for how we can deliver better care, and he is laser-focused on creating the best possible experience for our patients and community, as well as our workforce.”

Mary Ellen Podmolik, editor-in-chief of Modern Healthcare, said the list aims to take a complete look at the honorees.

“Influence can be exerted in many ways, but regardless of whether it is used to internally shape organizations, the healthcare industry as a whole, or both, playing a positive role benefits patients and the professionals responsible for their health,” she said

“Our ranked list of the 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare highlights the executives in all corners of the industry who are striving to advance medicine and how care is delivered — and succeeding in doing so.”
