The Liberty Science Center served as the backdrop for a gathering of global innovation this past Friday, as Edge Medical Ventures hosted its Medtech Innovation Showcase. The event highlighted New Jersey’s rapid emergence as a global hub for medical technology, fueled by a unique transatlantic partnership that bridges Israeli research and development with New Jersey’s clinical and commercial infrastructure.
The showcase brought together state officials, health care leaders, and venture capitalists to explore how the partnership between Edge and the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) is successfully attracting international startups to the Garden State.
Edge Medical Ventures operates a “dual venture creation” model. Startups begin their journey in Israel, utilizing the country’s deep technical talent and support from the Israel Innovation Authority for early-stage R&D. Once ready for clinical trials and commercial launch, these companies transition their primary operations to New Jersey.
“Our successful co-investment model with NJEDA… has been instrumental in anchoring Edge portfolio companies to New Jersey,” Shai Policker, managing partner of Edge Medical Ventures said. “By embedding U.S. go-to-market expertise early on, we help startups progress efficiently toward commercialization.”
A key driver of this momentum is the NJ Innovation Evergreen Fund (NJIEF), a first-of-its-kind program that auctions corporate tax credits to raise capital for co-investment in New Jersey startups.
