Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) announced the appointment of Frank LoCastro as the new vice president for Facilities. LoCastro, a veteran in campus operations and strategic resource management, will officially assume his role on Feb. 2.
LoCastro joins FDU following a nearly nine-year tenure at Stevens Institute of Technology, where he served as assistant vice president for the Division of Facilities and Campus Operations. During his time in Hoboken, he was responsible for the management of 50 academic, administrative, and residential buildings, along with the university’s athletic facilities and grounds.
With over two decades of experience in large-scale facility management, LoCastro brings a wealth of expertise to FDU’s multi-campus environment. His professional background includes leadership roles at some of New York City’s most iconic institutions:
-
Stevens Institute of Technology: Assistant VP for Facilities and Campus Operations.
-
Trust for Governors Island: Vice President for Operations and Facilities.
-
Central Park Conservancy: Vice President for Operations Management.
-
New York University: Manager of Academic Facilities, overseeing approximately 3 million square feet of space.
“I am honored to join Fairleigh Dickinson University,” LoCastro said. “Throughout my career, I have focused on collaboration, leadership, and aligning campus facilities with the mission of the institution. I look forward to building an environment that supports teaching, research, and student success while positioning the University for long-term growth.”
LoCastro’s appointment is backed by a robust academic profile. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate from New York University in 2005. He later pursued advanced studies at Stevens, earning a Master of Science in Technology Management (2020) and an MBA in Finance (2021).
Frank Barra, FDU’s senior vice president and chief financial officer, expressed high confidence in the new appointment. “Frank brings a strong record of achievement and great expertise in a wide variety of facilities operations,” Barra noted. “We are very excited to welcome him, and I know the entire community will offer him our full support.”
The appointment comes at a pivotal time for the university. FDU recently launched several major health initiatives, including FDU Health and the HealthPath Forward program, which emphasize regional partnerships and innovative healthcare delivery. LoCastro will be tasked with ensuring the university’s physical infrastructure evolves to meet these expanding academic and community-focused goals.
