Origin

Founded in 1968 in Elizabeth, Bridgeway began as a single vocational program supporting individuals with mental health disabilities. Now, 57 years later, Bridgeway Behavioral Health Services provides a full continuum of community-based urgent, short-term and long-term behavioral health services to individuals and families across central and northern New Jersey.

Mission/vision

Bridgeway facilitates, promotes and fosters recovery from mental illness and co-occurring problems. Guided by compassion, dignity and respect, Bridgeway supports adults, youth and families to achieve wellness, independent living, learning, working and community inclusion through integrated behavioral health and supportive housing programs.

Key programs

  • Mental health urgent care centers: Walk-in crisis stabilization sites in Hudson and Union counties offering immediate assessment and treatment as alternatives to emergency room visits.
  • Outpatient & rehabilitation services: Therapy, psychiatric care and supported employment to help individuals achieve wellness and independence.
  • Community support & housing programs: Case management and supportive housing for people experiencing homelessness or serious mental illness.

Biggest event/fundraiser

Bridgeway’s Annual Chairperson’s Dinner serves as the organization’s premier fundraising event, bringing together community partners, donors and advocates to support its mission of recovery and independence. Funds raised help expand vital housing, outpatient and community-based behavioral health services across New Jersey.

Supporters/donors

Supported by community donors, corporate partners, state and county agencies and collaborators within the Woods System of Care, all committed to expanding access to high-quality, person-centered behavioral health and housing.

One more thing

Bridgeway is opening a new Center for Integrated Outpatient Services in Union County, expanding same-day access to mental health and substance use care. The center will offer therapy, medication and case management, and integrated treatment for youth, adults and families, with prescriber access within 48 hours.
