Origin

Samaritan is a not-for-profit, community-based health care provider, locally founded in 1980 in Moorestown as one of the first hospices in the country. Since then, Samaritan has continued to expand health care services to help patients and their families at every stage of the health care journey.

Mission/vision

Samaritan is a leading provider of hospice, palliative medicine, primary care, grief support/counseling, advanced illness care, education and advocacy — serving 12,500-plus individuals and their families annually in Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Mercer counties who are coping with the stresses of aging, serious illness or grief wherever they call home.

At the heart of Samaritan’s 45 years of caring is a steadfast dedication to person-centered care and honoring patients’ wishes, values and goals of care. Samaritan’s above-and-beyond care includes Samaritan Centers at Voorhees and Mount Holly, a Center for Grief Support, veterans programs and services, music and massage therapies, community education and advocacy.

Key Programs

  • Hospice care: Samaritan helps patients and their loved ones focus on life’s most tender moments while its hospice team provides expert care and extraordinary compassion that sees each patient as a whole person, addressing physical, emotional, spiritual and social needs. Fellowship-trained and board-certified physicians and nurses, social workers, spiritual support counselors, home health aides, music and massage therapists, volunteers and a 24/7 call center ensure that no patient or family feels alone on this journey.
  • Palliative medical partners: Samaritan helps ease the symptoms and stress of serious illness as early as the time of diagnosis, providing expert care that helps patients and families express their goals of care, understand their treatment choices and choose the care they want. Fellowship-trained and board-certified palliative care physicians and nurses and a 24/7 call center ensure patients and their loved ones are able to live well with serious illness.
  • Primary Care at Home: Samaritan providers make house calls throughout South Jersey, eliminating the inconvenience and stress associated with frequent trips to the doctor’s office, improving the overall health care experience for patients experiencing chronic health conditions and a lack of mobility. Serving patients who are home-bound or live in an assisted-living facility, skilled nursing facility, retirement home or retirement community, Samaritan providers make house calls throughout South Jersey, easing caregiver burden and allowing patients personalized primary care right where they live.

Biggest Event/Fundraiser

Samaritan will hold its annual Celebration of Life Gala on Feb. 7, 2026, in Philadelphia.

Supporters/Donors
