Hudson Auto Group’s Andrew Shapiro appointed chairman of NJ CAR

A. Andrew Shapiro, dealer principal and co-owner of Hudson Auto Group, has officially assumed the chairmanship of the New Jersey Coalition of Automotive Retailers (NJ CAR). Shapiro takes the helm of the century-old organization as it navigates a rapidly evolving landscape for the state’s $45 billion auto retail industry.

Shapiro, a 33-year veteran of the automotive sector, succeeds 2025 Chairperson Ron Baus, Jr. (Spirit Chrysler Dodge Jeep). In his new role, Shapiro will serve as the primary advocate for New Jersey’s 520+ franchised dealerships, which collectively support more than 75,000 local jobs.

Shapiro’s tenure in the industry spans over three decades, beginning at United Auto Group. Since 2006, he has been a driving force behind Hudson Auto Group, which includes prominent franchises like Hudson Hyundai Subaru in Jersey City.

His leadership experience is extensive:

  • Corporate Strategy: Co-founded Casesa Shapiro Group LLC, an independent advisory firm for the auto industry.

  • Large-Scale Operations: Previously served as President of DiFeo Auto Group, managing 11 franchises across the NJ/NY region.

  • Industry Governance: Serves on the Board of Directors of Wholesale Auto Supply Company (WASCO), a dealer-owned cooperative.

Shapiro steps into the chairmanship during a pivotal year for New Jersey drivers and dealers alike. With federal and state debates over Electric Vehicle (EV) mandates and the integration of AI into the dealership model reaching a fever pitch, Shapiro’s focus is on collaboration and consumer experience.

The auto retail industry is critical to New Jersey, which is why it is important the industry works collaboratively with State regulatory agencies to ensure consumers have the best car-buying and ownership experience possible,” Shapiro stated.

“Andy is one of the most dedicated dealers I’ve met,” Laura Perrotta, president of NJ CAR, said. “His commitment to the industry, and his customers, will serve him well… The Coalition will continue to be in good hands.”

Joining Shapiro on the NJ CAR Senior Officer team for the 2026 term are:

  • Vice Chairman: Ed Barlow, III (Barlow Chevrolet)
  • Secretary: Michael DeSilva (Liberty Kia)
  • Treasurer: David Kull (Burns Honda)
