Integrity House launches new programs to combat homelessness and support recovery in New Jersey

Integrity House, a Newark-based provider of substance use and mental health services, launched two new programs aimed at addressing homelessness and housing instability. These initiatives, supported by grants from the New Jersey Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) and the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA), are designed to create pathways to long-term housing and recovery.

New programs address housing and recovery

The Shelter to Home Program, funded by DMHAS, provides case management and supportive services to individuals with substance use disorders who are temporarily residing in shelters. Integrity House case managers offer in-community support to help these individuals transition from temporary housing to long-term, affordable housing. The program also focuses on developing personalized recovery plans that connect participants with a variety of critical resources, including:

  • Substance use treatment
  • Health care
  • Legal services
  • Education and job training

Separately, the Housing Supports program, funded by a DCA grant, helps NJ FamilyCare members find and maintain stable housing. The program offers pre-tenancy and tenancy case management services in collaboration with all New Jersey Managed Care Organizations, including Aetna, Fidelis, and Horizon Blue Cross. These services include assistance with housing applications, landlord mediation, and referrals to financial and employment resources.

The role of stable housing in recovery

Robert Budsock, president and CEO of Integrity House, emphasized the critical link between stable housing and well-being.

“Housing is an essential component of long-term recovery from substance use disorders, mental health conditions, and chronic physical health conditions,” Budsock said. “By expanding our presence in shelters and strengthening our housing support services, we’re creating pathways to stability and improved well-being.”

Integrity House, founded in 1968, provides a unified system of care for individuals facing substance use and mental health challenges. The new programs reinforce the organization’s mission to offer comprehensive, “whole-person care” that addresses a wide range of needs.
