Interstate Waste Services acquires Grand Sanitation Service to expand across Garden State

Interstate Waste Services, Inc. (IWS), a major provider of solid waste, recycling, and disposal services, on Monday announced the acquisition of Grand Sanitation Service, Inc. (Grand), a respected independent hauler based in New Jersey. This strategic move combines the legacy and local expertise of Grand with the industry-leading capabilities of IWS to enhance service for customers across Northern and Central New Jersey.

Founded in 1998, Grand Sanitation has built a strong reputation for reliability and service excellence, providing a full range of services—including residential, commercial, roll-off, and cleanup solutions—to counties such as Union, Middlesex, Somerset and Morris.

“We’re proud to welcome Grand Sanitation to the IWS family,” Mike DiBella, founder and CEO of Interstate Waste Services said. “This acquisition reflects our commitment to combining strong local roots with industry-leading capabilities… Together, we’re building on a shared foundation of reliability, integrity and customer-first values to deliver the best service.”

The acquisition is comprehensive, with IWS integrating Grand’s full operations, including all commercial and residential collection, roll-off, and municipal services. It will also bring Grand’s team of employees and a fleet of more than 50 vehicles under the IWS banner, significantly boosting the company’s operational capacity in the region.

For Grand Sanitation, the acquisition marks a new chapter while ensuring its customer-first ethos continues.

“Joining Interstate Waste Services marks an exciting new chapter for Grand Sanitation,” stated Rich Golinello, owner and president of Grand Sanitation. “We’ve always taken pride in serving our community with dedication and care, and I’m confident that IWS will carry that legacy forward.”

This deal is the latest in a series of strategic expansions for IWS across the tristate area, following acquisitions like Seaside Waste Services, Pinto Service, Inc., Oak Ridge Waste & Recycling, and Marangi Disposal. As one of the largest privately held solid waste companies in the U.S., IWS operates over 1,000 collection vehicles and a network of 33 material recovery and transfer facilities, utilizing waste-by-rail transportation as a sustainable solution.

IWS emphasizes that as it grows, it remains committed to sustainability, operational efficiency, and community-focused service, ensuring that family-founded values remain at the heart of its operations.
