New Jersey City University (NJCU) has been selected as a 2025 Angeles Higher Education Impact Award honoree by Angeles Investors, the nation’s largest and most prominent group of Hispanic and Latinx angel investors and entrepreneurs.
The award celebrates institutions that show exceptional leadership and support for entrepreneurs, specifically highlighting the contributions of Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) in growing the startup ecosystem.
The award will be presented on Aug. 22 in Chicago, Illinois, during a special event focused on “Higher Education as the Engine for the AI Economy.” NJCU President Andrés Acebo will participate in a panel discussion on best practices for institutional advancement, including funding, student recruitment, and attracting corporate partners. The recognition ceremony will be followed by an awards dinner.
Acebo expressed his gratitude for the honor, emphasizing NJCU’s role in providing students with the tools they need to succeed.
“As a nationally ranked leader in social mobility, NJCU continues to positively impact the communities and economies of Jersey City, Hudson County, and beyond,” he said. “Through our academic opportunities and strategic community partnerships, we serve as a model for how Hispanic-serving institutions can create pathways to entrepreneurship and economic empowerment.”
The Angeles Higher Education Impact Award is given to institutions that demonstrate significant and intentional support for initiatives that lead to measurable outcomes in advancing academic success and quality of life for diverse populations. NJCU, as New Jersey’s oldest public four-year minority and Hispanic-serving institution, was recognized for its dedication to educational access and opportunity for underrepresented communities.
Angeles Investors, the organization behind the award, is committed to finding, funding, and growing promising Hispanic and Latinx ventures, and its awards aim to support the development of diverse entrepreneurial talent across the nation.
