PSEG Foundation awards $100K grant to Food Bank of South Jersey to boost ‘Feed South Jersey’ program

The Food Bank of South Jersey (FBSJ) has received a substantial boost to its hunger-relief mission with a $100,000 grant from the PSEG Foundation.

The funding is specifically designated to advance the FBSJ’s Feed South Jersey programs, the Food Bank’s most ambitious initiative to date. Through this program, FBSJ is working to expand immediate hunger-relief efforts and build long-term, sustainable solutions to food insecurity across Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, and Salem counties.

“Feed South Jersey is about building the future of hunger-relief in our region,” Fred Wasiak, president & CEO of the Food Bank of South Jersey said. “With PSEG Foundation’s generous support, we can expand our reach, provide more nourishing meals, and invest in long-term solutions that help families thrive.”

The PSEG Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG), prioritizes investments in environmental sustainability, social justice, equity, and community wellbeing.

Calvin Ledford, president of the PSEG Foundation, emphasized the joint commitment to community health. “Access to healthy, nutritious food is one of the greatest challenges many families face today,” Ledford said. “We’re proud to partner with the Food Bank of South Jersey on Feed South Jersey to address immediate needs while building lasting solutions for stronger, healthier communities.”

Focus on nutrition and education

A core component of the grant will fund health and wellness programs under the Feed South Jersey umbrella. These evidence-based classes will focus on building nutrition awareness and empowering families to prepare healthy, affordable meals. The interactive classes will be offered in both English and Spanish.

By equipping residents with the tools and knowledge to improve their overall health, these programs aim to bolster food security beyond just meal distribution.

The “Feed South Jersey” initiative combines expanded hunger-relief efforts with critical community investments and a dedicated relief fund to ensure South Jersey families have consistent access to healthy food and the resources necessary to build stability.

In 2024, the Food Bank of South Jersey, a proud member of Feeding America, distributed more than 19.5 million meals through its direct distributions and network of over 300 community partners.
