Red Bank-based Caithness Energy sells Long Island power plant to Lotus Infrastructure

Caithness Energy, a privately held independent power producer based in Red Bank, has announced a definitive agreement to sell its Caithness Long Island Energy Center to Lotus Infrastructure Partners, LP. The 365 MW natural gas-fired power plant in Suffolk County, New York, is considered one of the most efficient of its kind in the state.

The plant, which began commercial operations in 2009, supplies approximately 26% of the net power generation for Long Island. According to Ross Ain, president of Caithness Energy, the facility has played a key role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in New York by operating in place of older, less-efficient plants.

Himanshu Saxena, chairman and CEO of Lotus, stated that the acquisition is a strategic move to support the region’s increasing power demands.

“As industrial and datacenter related investments continue to advance in the region, we expect CLI to play an increasingly critical role in sustaining these initiatives and providing reliable power for Long Island and New York State,” he said.

The sale to Lotus, a firm specializing in energy infrastructure, ensures the continued operation of a key asset that provides reliable, low-cost power to customers.
