Saint Peter’s Breast Center attains national accreditation from the ACS

Saint Peter’s Breast Center has earned accreditation from the American College ofSurgeons National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, the sixth consecutive year of earning NAPBC accreditation.

Programs accredited by the NAPBC require a breast center to facilitate multidisciplinary, integrated, and comprehensive breast cancer services. The NAPBC focuses on the spectrum of a patient’s journey with breast cancer or breast disease, including prevention, screening, treatment, and survivorship.

Saint Peter’s is also the first location in Central Jersey to earn a full three-year accreditation from the NAPBC.

As an NAPBC-accredited institution, Saint Peter’s also becomes an ACS Surgical Quality Partner. Being identified as a Surgical Quality Partner signifies a hospital’s dedication to consistently improving procedures and protocols, minimizing complications, and achieving better patient outcomes. The Surgical Quality Partner designation lets patients know Saint Peter’s is committed to quality and relentless self-improvement.

Astera Cancer Care’s Lisa Hopkins explains their purpose.

“NAPBC accreditation reassures patients and their loved ones that Saint Peter’s Breast Center provides comprehensive and advanced care,” she said. “Receiving care close to home is not only convenient but alleviates additional stress and anxiety during treatment while allowing friends and family to provide support.”

Radiation oncologists from Astera Cancer Care provide advanced cancer therapy and compassionate patient care at Saint Peter’s University Hospital in collaboration with Saint Peter’s pathologists, oncologists, surgeons, and other cancer specialists.

TrueBeam radiation therapy, now available at Saint Peter’s, is a non-invasive treatment option that treats cancer by delivering high doses of radiotherapy with tremendous accuracy, precisely targeting tumors while minimizing exposure of the surrounding healthy tissues and organs. TrueBeam’s automated system helps reduce treatment time. In many cases, patients can be in and out in as little as 20 minutes.
