Seton Hall announces plans to create Innovation Hub in campus library

Construction begins this month of a catalyst for collaboration, creativity and academic transformation

Calling it a high-tech area that will serve as a hands-on learning experience for students, Seton Hall University on Monday announced that it is creating an Innovation Hub on the ground floor of Walsh Library.

The reimagined space, located inside the Teaching, Learning and Technology Center, will provide high-impact technology resources while offering students access to specialized tools that support creative exploration, academic research and career-ready skills.

Faculty and administrators will find opportunities to integrate emerging technology and innovative teaching strategies into their curricula.

The Innovation Hub will feature a glass-walled entry along Seton Drive with an open staircase connecting the space to the second floor of the library, making the technology-rich space more visible and accessible to the university community. Inside, it will include:

  • an open study lounge
  • technology consultation rooms
  • a Maker Studio for hands-on technology projects
  • an XR/AI Studio for exploratory learning
  • and dedicated content creation spaces, including a Recording Studio and three Podcast Studios

The opening of the space will also move laptop and software support from Corrigan Hall to Innovation Hub which is more central to the campus for students and faculty.

The project is being funded by a $1.25 million state appropriation along with additional investments from the university.

The university has contracted with KSS Architects on the project design. KSS has partnered with Seton Hall on other major capital improvements, including Bethany Hall, Mike Sheppard, Sr. Stadium at Owen T. Carroll Field, and upgrades to the Richie Regan Recreation and Athletic Center and Walsh Gymnasium. The firm has a long track record of enhancing colleges and universities, having spearheaded the Edelman Fossil Park Museum at Rowan and the student center at Rutgers — New Brunswick, among other projects.

Construction is expected to begin in May, with minimal disruption to the campus community. During renovation, the Walsh Gallery and Archives and Collections will remain open. Members will retain full access to Walsh Library via the second-floor rotunda entrance, using the staircase or the accessible ramp located near Dunkin’ and Mooney Hall. Additionally, a door will be open closest to the Walsh Gallery and Archives and Special Collections through the portico by the parking garage.

“The Innovation Hub reflects Seton Hall’s commitment to empowering students and faculty with tools and spaces they need to think creatively, explore fearlessly and lead with innovation,” Seton Hall President, Msgr. Joseph Reilly, said. “This dynamic space will not only enhance teaching and learning but also inspire collaboration and discovery across disciplines.”
