ShopRite Stores in Hunterdon County to debut AI-powered Caper Carts

The family-owned ShopRite of Hunterdon County is bringing cutting-edge technology to its customers with the rollout of Caper Carts at three of its New Jersey stores. The smart shopping carts, powered by Instacart’s AI technology, are now available at the ShopRite locations in Flemington, Clinton and Greenwich.

The carts are designed to transform the shopping experience by allowing customers to scan items as they are placed in the basket. The interactive screen on each cart provides a real-time spending tracker, and shoppers can complete their entire transaction and check out directly from the cart, eliminating the need to wait in a traditional checkout line.

“We’re excited to introduce Caper Carts to our ShopRite stores in Flemington, Clinton, and Greenwich,” Sam Colalillo of ShopRite of Hunterdon County said. “As a third-generation grocer, I’ve seen how technology can transform the shopping experience. It’s a game-changer for convenience, and we’re proud to bring this innovation to our stores.”

Ribbon-cutting ceremonies are scheduled to celebrate the launch at each location:

  • ShopRite of Greenwich: Monday, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m.
  • ShopRite of Flemington: Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 11 a.m.
  • ShopRite of Clinton: Monday, Sept.  29, at 11 a.m.

The new technology also allows customers to sync their ShopRite Price Plus Club cards to the carts to automatically apply savings and coupons. This initiative follows a successful launch of the Caper Carts at the Colalillo family’s other stores in Yardley and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
