Sixth-generation family member John Anderson III promoted to lead Gilbane Building’s New Jersey office

Gilbane Building, a privately-owned construction firm in Newark, recently announced the promotion of John E. Anderson III to business leader.

A sixth-generation member of the Gilbane family, Anderson is tapped to spearhead the company’s growth in the New Jersey market. In his new role, he will concentrate on expanding the company’s market portfolio, diversifying service offerings and fostering team development, all with the goal of delivering world-class facilities to clients across the region.

Anderson is a construction veteran with over 17 years of industry experience, having previously spent a decade in Gilbane’s highly competitive New York City office. His background is extensive, spanning health care, commercial, residential and life sciences construction.

His project experience includes the notable 50 Hudson Yards in New York City, where he oversaw the core and shell construction of the 2.9 million-square-foot, 58-story office building. Anderson also led the NYCEDC NYC Health + Hospitals Metropolitan Hospital Resiliency Project, which involved constructing a new flood mitigation system and renovating an emergency management facility.

“As a construction veteran and longtime Gilbane team member, John fully embodies the values we look for in a business leader — he is growth-oriented, safety-obsessed, people-focused and community-minded,” Shawn Carlin, senior business leader at Gilbane Building, said. “Combined with his impressive track record executing complex builds and renovations across a wide range of industries in the New York City market, we’re excited to see what John brings as the leader of our New Jersey office.”

Anderson has held a range of different on-site and off-site roles throughout his career at Gilbane. In addition to his project leadership, he has actively contributed to the firm’s culture by serving on the Gilbane NYC Safety Task Force and leading the Project Manager Peer Group. He is also a former ACE Mentor and remains involved in charitable initiatives.

“Gilbane has a long and successful history building in New Jersey, and I am honored by the opportunity to build on our construction leadership in this market,” Anderson said. “I’m excited to lead our talented team in New Jersey and continue serving our clients and communities with excellence.”

Gilbane’s New Jersey office has been active in the state for over four decades, with a portfolio showcasing diverse expertise. Recent and current projects include the Mulberry Commons development, the Dover Tubular industrial facility and Caesars Sports Book at Monmouth Park. The firm has established strong relationships with clients such as Rutgers University, Bristol Myers Squibb, the Prudential Center, and the Bergen County Courthouse, demonstrating proven capabilities across the life sciences, industrial, higher education, health care and sports and entertainment sectors.
