Stockton University’s Board of Trustees formally approved a new three-year contract for President Joe Bertolino, signaling continued confidence in his visionary leadership.
The agreement begins on July 1, 2026, and includes an option for a one-year extension. Bertolino, who became Stockton’s sixth president in July 2023, has been praised for his focus on student success and community engagement.
“President Bertolino has proven himself to be a steady, compassionate and visionary leader for Stockton University,” Jose Lozano, chair of the Board of Trustees, said. “The Board of Trustees is proud to reaffirm our confidence in his leadership and to support his continued efforts to boldly write Stockton’s next chapter.”
During his tenure, Bertolino has spearheaded several major institutional initiatives, including:

The 2025 Strategic Plan: Developing a roadmap focused on student success, inclusive excellence, and sustainability.

Atlantic City Campus Development: Creating a task force to maximize the university’s role as an “Anchor Institution” in Atlantic City.

Academic & Community Partnerships: Establishing new degree and course offerings in collaboration with community colleges.
Under Bertolino’s leadership, Stockton recently secured record-setting results for its “Ospreys Give” fundraising initiative and bolstered its academic leadership team with the hiring of a new Provost.
“I’m honored and deeply grateful to the Board of Trustees for their continued trust and support,” Bertolino said. “Together, we will continue to strengthen Stockton as a community of opportunity, where every student belongs and every voice matters.”
Bertolino has earned regional and national recognition for his efforts, recently receiving the NASPA Region II President’s Award and the MBCA 2024 Education Appreciation Award.
