Somos, Inc., the East Brunswick-based organization responsible for managing more than seven billion phone numbers across North America, has named Gaurav Baveja as its new chief financial officer.
Baveja joins the company at a critical juncture for the telecommunications industry. As the official administrator for the North American Numbering Plan (NANPA) and the Toll-Free Numbering (TFNA) registry, Somos is currently spearheading major initiatives to combat robocalls and identity fraud—challenges that Baveja is well-equipped to handle given his deep roots in the tech and telecom sectors.
With more than 25 years of experience, Baveja is expected to bring a “data-driven” approach to Somos’ financial operations. His role will involve more than just balancing the books; he will be a key architect in the company’s financial strategy, focusing on scalable execution as Somos expands its global footprint through its subsidiary, XConnect.
“As Somos grows and evolves, Gaurav will be instrumental in keeping us focused on what matters most: being a trusted partner and delivering meaningful value for our customers,” said Gina Perini, Chair of the Board and CEO at Somos.
Baveja’s career spans high-level leadership roles at both established giants and emerging startups:
-
Vonage: Served as CFO and COO of the Applications Group, overseeing major M&A integrations and operational shifts.
-
Tonaquint data centers: Most recently served as CFO, guiding the organization through a period of strategic expansion.
-
Investment banking: Spent years at Wells Fargo, advising on complex transactions within the digital infrastructure and telecom sectors.
Somos is often referred to as the “glue” that holds the North American telecom system together. By managing registries like the Reassigned Numbers Database (RND), the company ensures that when you get a new phone number, you aren’t immediately harrassed by calls intended for the previous owner.
As CFO, Baveja will oversee the investments necessary to maintain these massive databases and develop new anti-fraud tools like SomosID for the Internet of Things (IoT).
“The company’s role in enabling secure and reliable communications is both critically important and timely,” Baveja said. “I look forward to partnering with the team to build scalable financial foundations.”
