The Valley Hospital Foundation announced Tuesday it will host its fourth annual “Step Up for Valley” virtual fitness challenge from Sept. 6 to Sept. 13.
The weeklong event will raise money for the hospital’s cardiac obstetric initiative, a program designed to screen, identify and support pregnant and postpartum patients with high blood pressure.
Jeff Seidler, a trustee of the foundation and founder of the event, said the challenge is a way to “bring our community together each year to encourage healthy living and support programs and services at Valley Health System.” Seidler added that this year’s cause, pregnancy-induced hypertension, is a condition that can be life-threatening if not properly managed. The hospital has seen an increase in cases of pregnancy-induced hypertension, preeclampsia and eclampsia, which can lead to higher rates of morbidity, mortality and stroke in new mothers.
Individuals can register for the challenge for $25, and special pricing is available for members of Valley Health LifeStyles. Participants can also form teams and create their own fundraising pages to track physical activity and donations. The challenge awards points for a variety of activities, including walking, running, biking and pickleball.
Participants will have the opportunity to win prizes, including a ProForm Fitness Mirror, Apple watches, and Valley Health LifeStyles memberships. Daily door prizes will also be awarded.
