The Trenton Thunder, New Jersey’s baseball team, and the NJM Insurance Group (NJM) are celebrating another successful season for their joint Safe at Home Program, announcing a $10,000 donation to the KinderSmile Foundation.
The annual donation is triggered by the Thunder’s performance, with NJM contributing based on the total number of runs scored at all home games throughout the season. The Thunder scored 200 runs at home this season, resulting in the five-figure contribution to KinderSmile.
The partnership, which began in 2012, has now raised a remarkable total of $170,500 for local charities across New Jersey.
“Our partnership with the Trenton Thunder and the Safe at Home Program demonstrates our shared commitment to supporting communities,” Jeff Richardson, NJM’s Community Outreach and Events coordinator said. “Congratulations to this year’s beneficiary, KinderSmile Foundation. We are happy to support its innovative efforts to provide comprehensive dental care to underserved communities.”
KinderSmile Foundation, which focuses on promoting health equity and expanding access to oral health care, expressed deep gratitude for the support.
“Words cannot express my gratitude for the continued support from NJM Insurance Group since the opening of the Trenton Dental Home,” Dr. Nicole McGrath-Barnes, founder and CEO of KinderSmile Foundation said. “Support from our partners is crucial. Thank you to NJM and Trenton Thunder on behalf of the children and families in Trenton.”
The Thunder organization highlighted the long-term community impact of the program.
“This was another incredibly successful year for the Thunder and our partnership with NJM and the Safe at Home Program,” Thunder President Jeff Hurley said. “We are looking forward to furthering the impact within our community and the Garden State in 2026, and we could not be prouder to have such a great teammate and partner in NJM.”
Previous nonprofits benefiting from the Safe at Home Program include The Father Center of New Jersey, HomeWorks Trenton, The Miracle League of Mercer County, and the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK), among others. The program continues to shine a spotlight on organizations providing outstanding work throughout the state.
