University Hospital Foundation’s golf classic raises record $425K for new hybrid operating  room

The University Hospital Foundation (UHF) successfully concluded its annual Golf Classic on Sept. 29th at the Canoe Brook Country Club, setting a new fundraising record. The event, which featured a round of golf, a beginner’s clinic, a silent auction and an evening cocktail reception, honored Dan Morley for his dedication and support of the Foundation.

Crucially, this year’s Golf Classic generated a record-breaking $425,000. These funds are earmarked for a new, state-of-the-art hybrid operating room at University Hospital. This integrated surgical environment is vital for health care advancement, allowing surgeons to perform simultaneous imaging, diagnostics, and complex procedures without the critical step of moving a patient. This capability is expected to lead to increased surgical accuracy, reduced procedure times, and significantly improved patient outcomes.

“The outpouring of support at this year’s Golf Classic demonstrates the profound commitment to health care excellence and health equity in our region,” Jessica Backofen, University Hospital Foundation chief development officer said. “This incredible success brings us one step closer to our goal of building a new, state-of-the-art operating room, a crucial investment that will revolutionize surgical care at University Hospital and lead to enhanced patient care and recovery.”

Since its inception in 2012, the Golf Classic has been a cornerstone fundraiser for various University Hospital projects, previously funding initiatives such as new ambulances, patient assistance programs, and a lobby renovation.

Calvin Ledford, Jr., chair of the Board of Trustees for the University Hospital Foundation, extended his thanks to participants. “The University Hospital Foundation is a beacon of hope for the community… We are immensely proud of the record-breaking success of this event. The funds raised are a powerful testament to our community’s commitment to improving healthcare, education, and wellness for patients and their families.”

The success of the event was made possible by numerous corporate and individual contributors, including presenting sponsor O’Conco and top sponsors TRIMEDX, Phoenix Medical Construction, Pulse Medical Transportation, and PSE&G.
