Valley National Bank names Patrick Smith as president of Consumer Banking

Valley National Bancorp announced the appointment of Patrick Smith as senior executive vice president and president of Consumer Banking. In this new role, Smith will lead the bank’s consumer business strategy, overseeing its retail operations and working to grow products and services for individual customers throughout Valley’s service area.

Smith’s responsibilities will include branch banking, small business banking, consumer lending, and enhancing the overall customer experience.

According to Smith, his focus will be on “building trust and creating access for people to reach their financial goals.” He added that he looks forward to working with the team to “expand our retail branch capabilities and position our organization as a true partner throughout the communities we serve.”

Before joining Valley, Smith was the head of Consumer & Business Banking at Santander, where he managed a U.S. retail banking business with approximately $48 billion in deposits. He has also held leadership positions at KeyBank, Bank of America, Wells Fargo and Capital One.

Valley Bank CEO Ira Robbins stated that Smith’s leadership and extensive experience will be “invaluable as we continue to grow and evolve our consumer business.” Valley National Bank is a regional bank with $63 billion in total assets and operates branches in New Jersey, New York, Florida, Alabama, California, and Illinois.
