The Sunrise ShopRite family is set to mark a major milestone with the grand opening of the brand-new ShopRite of West Caldwell, a nearly 90,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art supermarket designed to usher in a new era of shopping while honoring the family business’s nearly 85-year commitment to the community.
The new store, located at 900 Bloomfield Ave., is nearly twice the size of the former location and will officially open its doors on Oct. 21, replacing the longtime store at 540 Passaic Ave.
Weekend party and opening day parade
To kick off the celebrations, Sunrise ShopRite is hosting a massive, family-friendly “Parking Lot Party” on Sunday, Oct. 19, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the new store’s location. The event will feature live music from the New Power Soul band, food trucks, games, giveaways, and activities including a balloon artist, an inflatable corn maze, airbrush tattoos, and a Touch-a-Truck experience.
The festivities will culminate on opening day Oct.21, with a community parade and ribbon-cutting ceremony. The parade will step off at 8:30 a.m. from the old location at 540 Passaic Ave. and march to the new store for a 9:15 a.m. ribbon cutting attended by local leaders and dignitaries.
“It was important to us to include everyone in this grand opening, and we are so excited to celebrate with our friends, neighbors and the entire community,” Dara Sblendorio, a fourth-generation grocer and president of Sunrise ShopRite said. “With this beautiful new store and our same strong pledge to service and quality, we will continue to grow with West Caldwell for years to come.”
State-of-the-art amenities
The expansive new location is designed to enhance the customer experience with a host of new features and expanded departments, including:
- Enhanced Sunrise Kitchens: Featuring freshly prepared meals, a made-from-scratch Pizza Shop, sushi, Asian cuisine, and a hot buffet.
- Sunrise Cellars Wine, Beer & Spirits: Three aisles of curated selections, complete with expert staff.
- Community Room: A dedicated space for cooking classes, wellness programs, and private events.
- Expanded Departments: Wider aisles, a larger Produce Department with organic and local selections, a Fresh Bake Shop with custom cakes, and full-service Meat & Seafood Departments.
- Convenience: The store offers ShopRite’s online shopping service, Order.Pickup.Deliver and an expanded parking lot.
The store honors its local heritage, which dates back to the first Sunrise Market opening in 1940. While replacing the distinctive red pagoda roofline of the former 1967 location, the new store will feature archival photos showcasing the family’s history and dedication to the community across multiple generations.
The existing ShopRite on Passaic Avenue will close its doors for the last time on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 6 p.m. The new store at 900 Bloomfield Ave. will operate seven days a week, from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
