Archer & Greiner (“Archer”), one of New Jersey’s most storied full-service law firms, announced Tuesday that Martyn Babitz has rejoined the firm as Of Counsel in its Private Wealth, Estates & Trusts practice.
The move marks a professional homecoming for Babitz, who practiced with Archer early in his career before spending decades in leadership roles at some of the world’s most prestigious financial institutions. His return significantly bolsters Archer’s ability to navigate the increasingly complex tax and succession landscape for high-net-worth families and business owners.
Babitz brings nearly 40 years of experience to the Voorhees office. His perspective is uniquely shaped by senior wealth planning roles at BNY Wealth, Hawthorn, PNC Family Wealth, and Brown Brothers Harriman. This “insider” knowledge of how major financial institutions handle multi-generational wealth allows him to bridge the gap between sophisticated legal structures and practical investment strategies.
“We’re thrilled to have Marty returning to Archer,” Steven Mignogna, co-chair of Archer’s Private Wealth, Estates & Trusts Group said. “He is widely respected for his work in trusts and estates and for the sophisticated counsel he provides to clients. His insight and collaborative approach strengthen our team.”
A core focus of Babitz’s practice is advising owners of closely held businesses. In an era of significant corporate consolidation, Babitz provides a critical service: tax-efficient pre-sale planning. By working with clients before a merger or acquisition occurs, he helps mitigate tax exposure and optimizes the long-term wealth transfer to the next generation.
His areas of expertise include:
- Tax Mitigation: Designing strategies to minimize income, estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer (GST) taxes.
- Philanthropic Structuring: Creating charitable vehicles that align with family values and tax goals.
- Business Succession: Ensuring a seamless transition of leadership and ownership for family-owned firms.
- Governance Integration: Aligning legal estate plans with broader family office and investment philosophies.
For Babitz, the return to Archer is a choice driven by the firm’s multidisciplinary platform. “Returning to Archer is especially meaningful to me,” he noted. “The Private Wealth, Estates & Trusts Group offers an exceptional platform and a thoughtful, integrated approach to advising clients.”
As a 95-year-old firm with over 175 attorneys, Archer’s “full-service” model allows Babitz to draw on the expertise of the firm’s corporate, real estate, and litigation teams—ensuring that a client’s estate plan isn’t just a document, but a comprehensive shield for their legacy.
