Bergen New Bridge Medical Center has significantly improved behavioral health screening and patient outcomes after implementing a digital screening platform, increasing screening rates for depression, anxiety, alcohol, and substance use disorders more than 14-fold in its Ambulatory Care Center.
Using NeuroFlow’s IntegrateBH solution, the Medical Center increased screening rates among eligible patients from 5.8% to 81.6%, surpassing the 80% benchmark required by the New Jersey Quality Improvement Program (QIP-NJ). The program incentivizes hospitals to expand access to care and improve behavioral health and substance use disorder outcomes through timely screening and follow-up.
The digital platform allows patients to complete behavioral health assessments before their appointments, enabling providers to quickly identify needs and connect patients with appropriate care. The Medical Center also integrated same-day behavioral health support through a psychiatric nurse practitioner, allowing for immediate intervention and referral when screenings indicate elevated risk.
“Our care teams can now identify behavioral health needs more quickly and connect patients to the right level of care—often during the same visit,” said Deborah Visconi, president and CEO of Bergen New Bridge Medical Center. “This approach has led to measurable improvements for some of our most vulnerable patients.”
As a result of meeting QIP-NJ benchmarks, Bergen New Bridge received additional quality-based funding, supporting its mission as a safety-net provider and expanding access to high-quality care for underserved populations.
