Somerset Shopping Center is continuing its evolution into a premier lifestyle destination with the addition of D1 Training, a nationally recognized leader in performance-based strength and conditioning.
The fitness brand has signed a lease for a 4,500-square-foot studio at the 219,000-square-foot community center, located at the busy intersection of U.S. 202/206 near the Somerville Circle. Managed and leased by Levin Management Corporation (LMC), the Barnes & Noble-anchored property remains a focal point for retail and services in Central Jersey.
Founded in 2001, D1 Training distinguishes itself from traditional “big box” gyms by offering coach-led programs modeled after Division 1 collegiate athletics. The concept targets both youth athletes looking to improve their competitive edge and adults seeking high-intensity functional training.
The Bridgewater location joins a growing New Jersey footprint that already includes studios in Bergen County, Middletown and Princeton.
“Fitness and wellness concepts have become an important part of a well-balanced tenant mix,” Matthew Harding, CEO of LMC said. “Adding a brand like D1 Training supports consistent traffic, strengthens the customer experience, and helps ensure centers remain relevant to the communities they serve.”
The arrival of D1 Training follows a flurry of recent leasing activity at Somerset Shopping Center. The center has recently welcomed diverse tenants including:
- Retailers: Boot Barn and Gap Factory.
- Services: Strand Salon Studios and Style Brow Bar.
- Specialty: Fred Astaire Dance Studio and Liquor Cave.
“D1 Training is a natural fit, adding to the tenant mix and complementing the surrounding retailers and services with a wellness-focused use that drives repeat visitation,” added Vanessa Kelty, LMC senior leasing representative, who arranged the lease.
Market data underscores why Bridgewater remains a target for premium brands. According to Placer.ai, Somerset Shopping Center draws approximately 1.2 million visits annually.
The surrounding trade area is characterized by high-income demographics, with:
- 126,623 residents within five miles.
- $178,015 average household income, significantly higher than the national average.
- 216,656 daytime population, providing a steady stream of midday foot traffic for fitness and dining operators.
While the center is nearing full capacity, LMC is currently marketing several remaining spaces ranging from 2,500 to 22,200 square feet, offering potential for further retail or medical use in one of Somerset County’s most stable commercial corridors.
