Englewood Hospital expands services, staff

Englewood Hospital has expanded its neurosciences program by acquiring a biplane imaging system, appointing new clinical leadership, and expanding its multidisciplinary stroke team with specialists in neurology, neurosurgery, and endovascular care.

Siemens’ biplane system delivers real-time visibility inside the brain’s blood vessels, enabling intervention in complex stroke and neurovascular cases that previously could not be treated.

The system also helps to treat brain aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), carotid artery disease, and other complex brain and vascular conditions.

Two physicians were added to the hospital’s staff, including Dr. Justin Marcus as medical director of stroke.

Marcus is a board-certified neurologist with primary clinical interests in inpatient neurology, acute stroke care, and epilepsy. He earned his degree at the University of Miami School of Medicine and completed his neurology residency at New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, followed by a clinical neurophysiology fellowship with an emphasis in epilepsy at Yale New Haven Hospital.

Dr. Joseph Carnevale has been appointed director of endovascular stroke. He is a neurosurgeon specializing in minimally invasive, catheter-based treatment of complex cerebrovascular conditions. He earned his degree at Brown University Medical School and completed his residency in neurological surgery at New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

In December, Englewood Hospital significantly expanded access to advanced medical services by opening Englewood Hospital Imaging and Therapeutics at Woodland Park. The new facility serves patients in Passaic and Essex counties.
