Hudson Regional Health unveils $75M-$100M investment and major hospital upgrades

The network rebrands its facilities and introduces cutting-edge technology, expanded services and a unified vision for a healthier Hudson County

Hudson County’s health care landscape is on the verge of a major transformation, as Hudson Regional Health (HRH), the area’s most rapidly expanding health care network, has unveiled an ambitious $75 to $100 million plan to modernize its hospital facilities. The comprehensive overhaul includes new names for each of its four hospitals, significant infrastructure upgrades, and the introduction of advanced medical technologies aimed at setting a new standard for care throughout the region.

The four hospitals, which have been undergoing a series of transformative upgrades, will now operate under a unified network identity to reflect HRH’s commitment to an integrated system of care. The newly rebranded hospitals are:

  • Bayonne University Hospital (formerly Bayonne Medical Center)
  • The Heights University Hospital in Jersey City (formerly Christ Hospital)
  • Hoboken University Hospital (formerly Hoboken University Medical Center)
  • Secaucus University Hospital (formerly Hudson Regional Hospital)

The unveiling was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Bayonne, attended by state and local dignitaries, including Hudson County Executive Craig Guy and the mayors of Bayonne, Jersey City and Hoboken. The event recognized HRH’s efforts to improve health care access and quality for all residents.

Strategic investments and enhanced services

The multi-million-dollar investment is already yielding tangible results for patients across Hudson County. HRH has already reopened and expanded critical service lines that were previously unavailable. Heights University Hospital in Jersey City has a newly reopened Cardiac Catheterization Lab capable of treating STEMI and neuro-related conditions—severe forms of heart attack where a coronary artery is completely blocked. This technology is critical for rapidly opening blockages and saving heart muscle. The hospital also now features a dedicated Sleep Center to diagnose and treat sleep-related disorders.

In Hoboken, the new Infusion Center provides a comfortable and controlled environment for patients receiving intravenous (IV) therapies for various conditions, including cancer and chronic illnesses. The hospital also now offers advanced Robotic Surgery to enable surgeons to perform complex procedures with greater precision, flexibility, and control through minimally invasive incisions. Bayonne University Hospital has reopened its Radiation Oncology service, providing a vital resource for cancer patients in the community.

To further address community health needs, HRH launched a Mobile Health Clinic that provides direct care and services to underserved populations.

Bringing cutting-edge technology to the community

A cornerstone of the modernization plan is the acquisition and implementation of state-of-the-art medical equipment across the network. The Heights University Hospital in Jersey City has acquired a Medtronic Mazor Stealth cranial navigation system, which assists surgeons with precision and predictability in surgical procedures, enhancing visualization and enabling highly accurate navigation during complex brain surgeries.

Bayonne’s hospital now boasts a suite of cutting-edge robotics. The Intuitive Da Vinci robotic surgical system allows surgeons to perform complex, minimally invasive procedures with enhanced dexterity and a magnified, 3D view of the surgical site. The Stryker Mako Orthopedic surgical robot is designed to assist surgeons with enhanced precision and accuracy in joint replacement procedures. The hospital also acquired a Medtronic Mazor Stealth spinal navigation with O-Arm, which provides surgeons with real-time feedback and three-dimensional imaging during spinal surgeries, improving accuracy and patient outcomes.

In Hoboken, investments include a new sterilizer for Central Sterile Services and new Dialysis Equipment, while the entire system has benefited from critical infrastructure repairs, including upgrades to HVAC, fire systems, and radiology equipment.

A commitment to academic and patient-centered care

Beyond the physical upgrades, HRH is solidifying its role as a regional leader in academic healthcare. Hoboken and Jersey City hospitals are already university-affiliated teaching hospitals, and HRH is actively working to secure the same designation for its Secaucus and Bayonne facilities. This commitment ensures that future generations of medical professionals receive best-in-class education and mentorship, attracting top-tier talent and fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.

“Our vision for Hudson Regional Health has always been centered around elevating care,” Yan Moshe, Chairman of Hudson Regional Health said. “These new upgrades reflect our mission to deliver the latest clinical technologies and an unwavering commitment to patient-centered care in every hospital we operate.”

Dr. Nizar Kifaieh, president and CEO of Hudson Regional Health, reinforced this message, stating, “Our goal is to provide patients in every corner of Hudson County with access to modern, sophisticated, and compassionate care—right in their own communities. This network-wide transformation brings advanced medical services, new technology, and elevated facilities to our hospitals, and we’re just getting started.”

The announcement was met with overwhelming support from community leaders. Congressman Rob Menendez called the investments a crucial step toward meeting the health care needs of the community and modernizing infrastructure. Hudson County Executive Craig Guy praised HRH’s commitment to “teaching, investment, and technology,” calling it “exactly what Hudson County needs.”

The mayors of Bayonne, Jersey City, Hoboken and Secaucus also expressed their support, noting the positive impact these investments will have on their communities. Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis highlighted the importance of high-quality, accessible medical care as his community grows, while Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla praised the new facilities for delivering “forward-thinking healthcare.” Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop emphasized that HRH is bringing “the innovation and expertise our community needs to thrive.”

The multi-year, multi-million-dollar plan represents a comprehensive effort to elevate healthcare standards across Hudson County, ensuring that residents have access to modern, high-tech, and compassionate care close to home.
