The fairways of Essex County are about to get a major star-power boost. Tournament host and LPGA legend Michelle Wie West announced that she will step out of the host’s suite and onto the green to compete in the fourth annual Mizuho Americas Open.
The event is set to take place at the prestigious Mountain Ridge Country Club in West Caldwell from May 4-10. Wie West, a five-time LPGA winner, accepted a sponsor exemption to join a field that includes the world’s top-ranked players and the rising stars of the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA).
During the tournament’s media day on Tuesday, Wie West expressed her excitement about returning to professional play in the Garden State.
“When I was presented with the idea for me to play, I couldn’t think of a better time to return to the course and compete with the world’s best golfers,” Wie West said. “I’m also thrilled to have the opportunity to play alongside the top AJGA girls.”
This appearance serves as a high-profile tune-up for Wie West, who is also slated to play in this year’s U.S. Open — marking her final year of eligibility from her historic 2014 victory. It also marks a significant personal milestone, as she balances her return to the tour with motherhood following the birth of her son, Jagger, in late 2024.
New Jersey’s golf spotlight
While the Mizuho Americas Open has traditionally been associated with Jersey City’s Liberty National, the move to Mountain Ridge Country Club brings world-class professional golf to the heart of West Caldwell. The tournament will remain at Mountain Ridge for the next two years before returning to the Hudson River waterfront in 2028.
Jeeno Thitikul, the current world No. 1, is already confirmed to return to New Jersey to defend her 2025 title.
