Morristown, Overlook are only two N.J. Hospitals to earn Top 50 designation from Healthgrades

State has 12 hospitals on overall 250 list, including five from HMH, three from Atlantic Health and two from RWJBH

Atlantic Health Morristown Medical Center and Atlantic Health Overlook Medical Center were named among America’s 50 Best Hospitals, according to Healthgrades.

They are the only two hospitals in the state to receive Top 50 designation — a feat the two have accomplished the past three years.

For more than two decades, Healthgrades has been dedicated to empowering meaningful connections between patients, doctors and hospitals — becoming one of the top platforms for helping patients finding a doctor.

Its annual rankings do not assign an overall number to each hospital; instead, they rank them as Top 50, Top 100 and Top 250.

Being ranked in the Top 50 — Healthgrades’ highest honor for clinical excellence — reflects Morristown and Overlook’s exemplary standard of care and places them in the top 1% of hospitals nationwide for overall clinical performance across the most common conditions and procedures, Healthgrades officials said.

Atlantic Health CEO Saad Ehtisham obviously was thrilled by the recognition.

“These recognitions reinforce what Atlantic Health patients experience every day – our unwavering commitment to deliver safe, high-quality care,” he said. “I commend each of our clinicians and every member of our team on their tireless efforts to raise the standard for quality across New Jersey and throughout the nation.”

Morristown Medical Center has been included in the Top 50 the past 11 years, or since 2016. Overlook Medical Center, in Summit, has been top tier since 2020. An additional Atlantic Health hopspital, Chilton Medical Center, in Pompton Plains, was ranked among the Top 250.

To determine America’s 50 Best Hospitals for 2026 and America’s 250 Best Hospitals for 2026, Healthgrades evaluated risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for more than 30 of the most common conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide.

“This year’s America’s Best Hospitals list gives patients a clearer picture of where high-quality care is delivered most consistently,” Dr. Alana Biggers, a medical advisor at Healthgrades, said. “Patients can feel confident in their decision to seek care at Atlantic Health, an organization that is setting the standard for clinical excellence nationwide.”
