A new national ranking highlights the organizations that have successfully fostered a strong, unified company culture, and New Jersey-based companies are prominently featured. Forbes has released its inaugural ranking of America’s Best Employers For Company Culture, identifying 600 companies nationwide that inspire a deep sense of purpose and loyalty among their employees.
The ranking is based on an independent survey conducted by Forbes and market research firm Statista. More than 218,000 workers at companies with at least 1,000 employees were surveyed anonymously. Respondents were asked to rate their employers and recommend them to others based on various culture-related topics, including fairness, inclusivity, performance recognition, work-life balance, and opportunities for advancement.
The ranking methodology aligns with recent research, which suggests that culture can’t be faked with mere “surface-level perks” like free lunches or wellness apps. Instead, the most successful organizations invest in system-level improvements such as manager coaching and conflict resolution. Researchers noted that when senior leaders changed how they led—including running meetings and giving feedback—trust scores among employees rose by an average of 26%, and burnout scores decreased by 22%.
By focusing on these deep structural changes, the companies on the Forbes list have achieved high levels of employee satisfaction and productivity.
Eighteen New Jersey-headquartered companies earned a spot on the 600-company list, with several achieving top national rankings, including Verisk Analytics at rank 8 and Johnson & Johnson at rank 13.
