NJ Sharing Network leads collaborative effort to boost organ donation and transplantation

The NJ Sharing Network, the nonprofit organization responsible for organ and tissue donation in New Jersey, hosted a Transplant Growth Collaboration meeting to address challenges and drive innovation in the field of organ donation. The forum brought together C-suite and senior leaders from all six of New Jersey’s transplant centers, as well as other regional hospitals and transplant centers.

The meeting focused on sharing proven strategies, identifying solutions to challenges, and developing new approaches to increase the number of life-saving transplants. This collaborative effort makes New Jersey the first state in the nation to host such a comprehensive series of meetings, establishing it as a leader in advancing organ donation and transplantation.

“Bringing together health care leaders from across New Jersey to collaborate and share best practices is ultimately about one goal — saving more lives,” Carolyn Welsh, president and CEO of NJ Sharing Network said. “By working together, our state is leading the way in creating a model of partnership that not only strengthens transplantation here in New Jersey but can also inspire similar efforts nationwide.”

According to the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), more than 100,000 Americans are currently waiting for an organ transplant, including nearly 4,000 New Jersey residents. A single organ and tissue donor can save up to eight lives and enhance the lives of over 75 others.
