In an era where much of the publishing world has pivoted toward low-cost, off-shore commodity models, one South Jersey manufacturer is doubling down on American craftsmanship. OnPress Book Printing officially announced a significant expansion of its manufacturing capabilities for 2026, aiming to restore the region’s historic status as a premier hub for high-quality book production.
Located just across the Delaware River from Philadelphia in Pennsauken, OnPress is investing heavily in an end-to-end digital production platform designed to bridge the gap between old-world quality and modern speed.
The 2026 expansion focuses on high-grade industrial technology, moving away from the “lowest unit cost” race to prioritize durability and aesthetic excellence. Key upgrades to the facility include:
- Advanced Digital Press Lines: Utilizing Xeikon and HP Indigo technology for high-coverage color accuracy.
- Library-Quality Binding: New Meccanotecnica and Muller Martini lines capable of producing Smyth-sewn hardcovers and specialized lay-flat formats.
- G7-Certified Precision: Ensuring rigorous color consistency across both short-run and high-volume orders.
- Digital Integration: The implementation of API-driven ordering systems to allow publishers to seamlessly sync their internal workflows with the factory floor.
“This region has a deep heritage in print manufacturing,” Jim Foley, president of OnPress Book Printing said. “We’re proud to be building on that legacy while creating new jobs and training opportunities for the next generation of press operators, bindery technicians, and production specialists.”
Pennsauken was once a cornerstone of the American printing economy, though recent decades saw much of that footprint vanish due to industry consolidation. OnPress is actively reversing this trend, currently employing a 110-person in-house team that handles everything from prepress to shipping under one roof.
By focusing on “Manufacturing at Scale—Without Sacrificing Craft,” the company is positioning itself as the go-to partner for independent publishers, educational organizations, and corporate clients who require more than what a standard “print-on-demand” service can offer.
As the demand for reliable, domestic manufacturing grows, OnPress is signaling that the future of books isn’t just digital—it’s high-quality physical production. With its 2026 expansion, the company remains dedicated to supporting backlist reprints, illustrated specialty books, and direct-to-consumer models with a level of “Made in America” quality that honors South Jersey’s industrial roots.
