We’ve run out of ways to qualify this, so we will simply say: Princeton University has been ranked as the top university in the country for the 15th consecutive year by U.S. News & World Report.
The news became official at 12:01 today – but it seemingly has been true since 12:01 a year ago, as the school’s remarkable run continues.
How long has it been Princeton been No. 1?
The last time another school took the top honor was 2011, when Harvard edged Princeton for the top spot.
On that day, Barack Obama was president (in his first term) and Chris Christie was governor of New Jersey (in his first term).
If that doesn’t seem like that long ago, consider this: The Giants were just months away from beating the Patriots in the Super Bowl (for the second time).
And you could have read it all in a print version of your favorite hometown paper.
But we digress.
Back to the rankings. New Jersey fared well on the complete US News list, which can be viewed here. The state placed six schools in the Top 100:
- Princeton (No. 1)
- Rutgers-New Brunswick (tied for No. 42)
- Rutgers-Newark (tied for No. 75);
- Stevens (tied for No. 80);
- NJIT (tied for No. 80);
- Rutgers-Camden (tied for No. 97).
And for those wondering how the national Top Ten stacked up, it is as follows:
- No. 1: Princeton
- No. 2: M.I.T.
- No. 3: Harvard
- No. 4t: Stanford
- No. 4t: Yale
- No. 6: University of Chicago
- No. 7t: Duke
- No. 7t: Johns Hopkins
- No. 7t: Northwestern
- No. 7t: Penn
