ProCure highlights proton therapy as a treatment option for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

With September designated as Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, ProCure Proton Therapy Center is urging men to educate themselves about all available treatment options, including proton therapy, an advanced form of radiation that offers a new level of precision. The center notes that one in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, underscoring the importance of early detection and informed decision-making.

According to Dr. Brian Chon, Medical Director at ProCure, many patients are unaware of their full range of choices.

“Proton therapy allows us to precisely target prostate cancer while sparing nearby healthy tissue, which can reduce the risk of side effects and help men maintain quality of life,” he said.

Unlike conventional radiation, proton therapy can reduce unnecessary radiation exposure to the bladder and bowels by 60–70%. This precision can lead to fewer long-term complications for many patients.

ProCure emphasized that proton therapy is not an experimental treatment, having been FDA-approved since 1988. The therapy is backed by peer-reviewed studies that demonstrate high survival rates and a low incidence of side effects.

ProCure’s Somerset facility is conveniently located for patients in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, and the treatment is covered by many insurance plans. The center also provides support to help patients navigate the financial aspects of their care.
