In a strategic move to infuse its governing body with contemporary student perspectives, Ramapo College of New Jersey has officially sworn in two young alumni, Stephan Lally ’20 and Brady O’Connor ’16, to its board of trustees.
The appointments, announced following the Feb. 9 board meeting, signal a shift toward inclusive governance aimed at bridging the gap between administrative oversight and the evolving needs of today’s students.
The meeting also marked a significant transition in leadership as Albert Nieves presided over his first session as Board Chair. Nieves, a professional services veteran with experience at Fortune 500 firms like PwC and DocuSign, succeeds immediate past chair Susan Vallario.
“As we welcome our new Board Chair, Albie Nieves, and alumni trustees Lally and O’Connor, Ramapo College affirms a governance structure designed for the future,” Ramapo President Cindy Jebb said.
The two new appointees bring a blend of public service and professional success back to their alma mater:
-
Stephan Lally ’20: Currently the Deputy Chief of Staff to NJ Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin, Lally has a deep background in student government and higher education policy.
-
Brady O’Connor ’16: A professional who credits Ramapo for his career trajectory, O’Connor expressed a “full-circle” commitment to ensuring current students have even greater opportunities than he did.
The Board of Trustees, whose members are appointed by the Governor with the advice of the State Senate, oversees the college’s strategic direction and fiscal health.
Alongside the new appointments, several veteran members were reappointed to ensure institutional stability:
-
Reappointed Trustees: William Dator, George Ruotolo, David Schlussel and Susan Vallario.
-
Total Composition: The 13-member board now includes a diverse mix of industry leaders, long-standing public servants, and current student representatives Sarah Glisson ’26 and Olivia Ha ’27.
