Larken Associates on Tuesday announced a 1,306-square-foot retail lease with Rizes Greek Taverna at the Kingsbridge Center in Hillsborough. The new restaurant, located at 378 South Branch Road, marks a significant addition to the township’s diverse culinary landscape.
The lease was negotiated by Victor Kelly, executive vice president of Larken Associates’ Commercial Division, who noted the strategic value of the complex’s location for dining establishments.
For owner Dimitri Manioudakis, a Somerset resident with over a decade of restaurant management experience, Rizes Greek Taverna is the culmination of a lifelong dream. The name “Rizes” (pronounced ree-zes) translates to “roots” in Greek, reflecting the deep connections to family and tradition that define the menu.
Pulling from his heritage in Crete, Manioudakis has curated a selection of family recipes passed down from his mother and grandmother. The taverna aims to provide a “meraki” experience—doing something with soul, creativity, and love—while maintaining accessibility for local families.
“In Crete, Rizes means more than roots; it is used to count individual olive trees, each a living story passed through generations,” Manioudakis said. “That is exactly what I am hoping to share—family bonds and traditions.”
Rizes Greek Taverna offers a “fresh take” on traditional Greek cuisine, operating as a BYOB establishment. The menu emphasizes freshness and authenticity, featuring Cretan specialties and Greek classics:
-
Signature Appetizers: Dakos (barley rusks with tomato and feta), Kolokithokeftedes (zucchini fritters), and Saganaki (flaming cheese).
-
Entrées: Grilled baby lamb chops (Paidakia), Lavraki (pan-seared Branzino), and traditional Moussaka.
-
Desserts: Portokalopita (orange sponge cake) and Galaktoboureko (semolina custard in phyllo).
The restaurant also caters to modern dietary needs with dedicated vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options.
