As New Jersey continues to position itself as a national leader in integrated health care, Rowan University’s Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine has announced the launch of a Master of Science in One Health (MSOH).
The program, set to begin in Fall 2026, arrives at a pivotal moment for the Garden State. It follows the recent establishment of the New Jersey One Health Task Force—the first of its kind in the nation—and complements Rowan’s massive $690 million West Campus Development Project, which aims to transform Gloucester County into a premier district for health innovation and workforce development.
The “One Health” framework operates on the principle that human, animal, and environmental health are inextricably linked. With more than half of emerging infectious diseases in humans originating in animals, the program aims to break down the “silos” that traditionally separate medical fields.
“At a time when the world faces growing threats from pandemics, climate changes and antimicrobial resistance… the need for One Health leaders has never been greater,” Dr. Omar Tliba, associate dean for research and graduate studies at the Shreiber School said.
The 33-credit program is designed for students targeting careers in biomedical research, public health, and health policy. It offers both full-time and part-time tracks, with applications currently open through April 15.
Key Coursework Includes:
- Zoonotic Risk Assessment: Studying diseases that jump from animals to humans.
- Crisis Management: Training for emergency responses to public health threats.
- Bioinformatics: Leveraging data analytics to track disease spread.
- Environmental Sustainability: Analyzing how land use and climate impact state health.
Rowan University is currently one of only two public universities in the U.S. to offer three medical degrees: DVM (Veterinary), DO (Osteopathic), and MD (Allopathic).
This “academic ecosystem” allows MSOH students to collaborate across several prestigious institutions, including:
- Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine
- Cooper Medical School of Rowan University
- Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering
- Rowan’s School of Earth and Environment
By integrating these disciplines, Rowan aims to keep high-achieving New Jersey students in-state while attracting global talent to South Jersey’s growing “Medicine Row.”
