South Jersey Gas and Elizabethtown Gas were recently recognized by the American Gas Association for outstanding safety records.
The two subsidiaries of South Jersey Industries (SJI) were awarded with the 2024 Leading Indicator award and the 2024 Industry Leader Accident Prevention award.
“We are proud of this recognition from the AGA for our safety performance and will always be committed to ensuring the safety of our employees, customers and communities we serve,” Steven Cocchi, senior vice president and chief operating officer, SJI, said. “At SJI, safety is a core value that we emphasize in every aspect of our company, and I want to thank our more than 1,200 employees who aim to make every day a safe day.”
To qualify for an AGA Safety Achievement award, a gas distribution utility must have zero employee fatalities, a DART (Days Away, Restricted and Transferred) incident rate lower than the industry average for their segment of the industry and an OSHA-recordable incident rate lower than the industry average for their segment of the industry.
In addition to boosting training opportunities for employees and community partners, SJI continues to improve safety, reliability and reduce carbon emissions through infrastructure investment programs.
