The Ballantine, a new luxury apartment community located at 80 Freeman Street in Newark’s historic Ironbound neighborhood, is rapidly becoming a sought-after address. Developers Shorewood Real Estate Group announced on Wednesday that the 280-residence building has surpassed the 50% leased mark since its debut earlier this year.
In response to the growing community, the development team has launched a complimentary shuttle service to Newark Penn Station, significantly improving commuting options for residents. This new service provides direct and convenient access to Manhattan and the broader New Jersey and regional rail networks.
According to Larry Davis, CEO of Shorewood Real Estate Group, The Ballantine offers a blend of modern living and historic charm.
“Residents can enjoy the Ironbound’s renowned Portuguese, Brazilian, and Spanish restaurants, local bakeries, cultural festivals, and more,” he said. “With the new shuttle to Newark Penn Station, commuting to New York City is even more convenient, and we’re excited so many people are choosing to make this contemporary building their home.”
The six-story building, designed by Minno & Wasko Architects, features a mix of studio to two-bedroom residences with premium finishes. Each home is equipped with 9-foot ceilings, luxury plank flooring, in-home washers and dryers, and smart lock systems. The kitchens boast stainless steel appliances and Silestone countertops, while bathrooms feature porcelain tile floors and Silestone vanity countertops. Select units also offer private patios or terraces.
Amenities at The Ballantine are designed to provide a comprehensive and modern lifestyle. The building includes concierge services, a rooftop deck with views of the New York City skyline, a courtyard with BBQs and dining spaces, and a fitness center with a yoga studio. Additional features include a game room with a multi-sport simulator, co-working spaces, a resident lounge, a pet spa, and onsite parking with EV charging stations.
The project is a tribute to the site’s rich history as the former Ballantine Brewery, one of America’s oldest beer brands. Shorewood Real Estate Group obtained the rights to the name and incorporated thoughtful tributes to the brewery’s heritage through curated artwork and design elements throughout the property. The brewery’s former urban mansion has been restored and is now part of the Newark Museum of Art, further connecting the new development to the area’s history.
