Valley National Bank on Thursday announced a significant addition to its leadership team as it seeks to deepen its impact on the small business community. Jonas Ng has joined the bank as First Senior Vice President and Head of Small Business Banking.
The move comes at a time when Valley is aggressively expanding its footprint—which now spans New Jersey, New York, Florida, Alabama, California, and Illinois—and doubling down on its “relationship-led, technology-enabled” philosophy.
Small business banking is a primary pillar for Valley. According to recent data from S&P Capital IQ, there are approximately 3.4 million small businesses operating within Valley’s multi-state footprint. Ng’s role will be to streamline how these entrepreneurs access capital, manage deposits, and engage with digital banking tools.
“Small businesses are at the center of the communities we serve,” Patrick Smith, president of Consumer Banking at Valley said. “They are builders, employers, and problem-solvers that rely on financial partners who understand their needs and show up consistently.”
Ng arrives at Valley with a background that blends traditional commercial banking with modern fintech innovation. Most recently, he held senior leadership positions at KeyBank. His resume also includes a stint as Chief Operating Officer of Laurel Road, a digital lending platform.
“Small business owners value speed, clarity, and trusted relationships,” Ng said in a release. “Valley’s model… positions the Bank to deliver in a way that is both personal and highly effective.”
