Valley National Bancorp announced the appointment of Matthew Verney as the chief banking officer for the Philadelphia and South Jersey market. In his new role, Verney will be responsible for leading the strategic direction and overall performance of the bank’s commercial expansion efforts into this crucial region.
Verney brings more than 13 years of banking experience to the role. Most recently, he served as the Market president for Truist Bank, where he successfully expanded that institution’s New Jersey presence and commercial growth initiatives. Before his career in banking, Verney built a reputation for driving sustainable growth and expanding brands into new markets through senior leadership positions in both the hospitality and government sectors.
Gino Martocci, senior executive vice president and president of Commercial Banking for Valley Bank, expressed confidence in the new appointment. “Matthew brings extensive experience to Valley with a proven commercial growth track record,” Martocci said. “The Philadelphia region presents significant opportunities for Valley to serve a diverse and growing business community, foster new commercial relationships, and support local economic development. With Matthew’s leadership, we are well positioned to capitalize on emerging market trends, deliver innovative financial solutions, and deepen our commitment to clients across the area.”
Verney holds a degree in Finance from the University of Maryland and a master’s degree from Loyola University of Maryland. He is also a veteran, having served as a commissioned officer in the United States Marine Corps, and is an active member of the Greater Philadelphia Veterans Network.
“I’m excited to lead Valley’s commercial growth in this key region,” Verney said. “By leveraging Valley’s strong foundation and client-focused approach, we’re well positioned to deepen relationships and drive continued market expansion.”
