Valley National Bank, a New Jersey-based regional bank with $62 billion in assets, is expanding its Chicago office footprint from 5,000 square feet to 10,000 square feet at its Midwest hub location.
The expansion will accommodate the financial institution’s thriving team and coincides with the bank’s two-year anniversary of its Chicago office under the leadership of Matt Weidle, first senior vice president and Midwest Regional president.
Valley entered the Chicago market through its merger with Bank Leumi USA in April 2022 and appointed Weidle to lead and expand the Midwest franchise in May 2023. Weidle joined Valley from Bank of the West as Regional Manager where he managed a team of bankers responsible for a book of business of over $2 billion in loan commitments. During this time Weidle grew a team of two into a team of more than 40 financial professionals.
Since joining Valley, Weidle has augmented the strong in-place capabilities with several strategic hires to offer expanded commercial & industrial, real estate, asset-based lending and wealth management solutions across the Midwest. In 2024, Weidle led Valley’s Chicago-based team to increase deposits by 80 percent and commercial loans by 64 percent. Recent growth in the market reflects the team’s focus on both new client acquisition and deeper penetration of existing relationships and has contributed to the ongoing geographic diversity of Valley’s business.
“Our Chicago-based banking team has made tremendous progress in the past two years, and we look forward to leveraging our new office space to continue the growth of Valley’s emerging Midwest and Great Lakes franchise,” Weidle said.
Since its expansion into the Chicago market, Weidle and his team have proudly become a valuable resource and partner to the local community. Valley supports a wide range of initiatives from education opportunities with local universities to volunteering with community organizations including Junior Achievement of Chicago, Feed My Starving Children, Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, Arrupe College and many more.
