Keasbey-based Wakefern Food Corp. announced a major expansion of its payment options, enabling customers to use Over-the-Counter (OTC) benefit cards from new, key providers across its various supermarket banners.
Effective immediately, customers at ShopRite, Price Rite Marketplace, The Fresh Grocer, Dearborn Market, Gourmet Garage, and Fairway Market can now use their OTC benefit cards from InComm Healthcare, NationsBenefits®, and S3 Health Benefit at in-store checkouts.
OTC benefit cards are prepaid cards provided as a supplemental benefit by Medicare Advantage plans and other insurers to help beneficiaries offset the costs of eligible health and wellness products.
This expansion means that Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and other qualified cardholders with benefits through the new providers can simply present their OTC cards when purchasing approved items.
Eligible products, which vary by the individual’s insurance plan, typically include a variety of:
- Healthy foods and vitamins
- Over-the-counter medications
- First aid supplies
- Personal care items
“Members of participating health plans can now shop confidently in-store, knowing they can use their OTC benefit cards to purchase the qualified products they need, when they need them most. These programs are a great way to help people access essential products and make healthier choices,” Darren Caudill, chief sales officer of Wakefern Food Corp., said.
The move aligns with a growing trend in the healthcare industry to provide flexible supplemental benefits that empower consumers to take better control of their wellness and manage everyday health-related expenses.
Customers with questions regarding their specific allowance, eligible items, or qualification for OTC benefits are encouraged to contact their insurance provider or review their Summary of Benefits.
