Wildwoods’ Doo Wop Experience Museum named one of America’s best for fourth straight year

The neon lights of the Jersey Shore are shining a little brighter today as the Doo Wop Experience Museum officially secures its spot among the nation’s top pop culture destinations.

In the recently released USA Today’s 2026 10Best Readers’ Choice Travel Awards, the Wildwoods landmark was voted one of the Best Pop Culture Museums in the Country. This marks the fourth consecutive year the museum has earned a top-ten national ranking, solidifying its status as a cornerstone of New Jersey’s tourism economy.

The Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement and Development Authority (GWTIDA) highlighted the museum as the heart of the island’s mid-century identity. The Wildwoods famously boast the largest collection of mid-20th century “Doo Wop” architecture in the United States—a style defined by jagged angles, space-age imagery, and vibrant neon.

Inside the museum, visitors are transported back to the 1950s and 60s through a curated collection of:

  • Authentic Neon Signs: Rescued from historic motels and diners.

  • Period Furniture: High-design pieces that defined the mid-century modern aesthetic.

  • One-of-a-Kind Artifacts: Memorabilia charting the rise of the Wildwoods as a premier post-war resort.

“The museum’s distinctive collection… continues to showcase the unique history and architecture of the Wildwoods, all under one roof,” said John Donio, President of the Doo Wop Preservation League.

The museum’s national recognition comes on the heels of a record-breaking streak for the resort destination. In 2025, the Wildwoods dominated the USA Today rankings, with the Wildwoods Boardwalk named #1 in the country and the Wildwoods Beaches voted the best in New Jersey for the second year running.

The Doo Wop Experience Museum acts as a cultural anchor for these attractions, offering seasonal “Back to the ’50s Neon Night” and Mid-Century Architecture Tours. These guided experiences allow guests to see the island’s living history beyond the museum walls.

Local officials view these repeated accolades as a vital driver for the 2026 summer season. By blending nostalgia with modern amenities—including the world-famous boardwalk, three amusement piers, and two beachfront waterparks—the Wildwoods continue to attract a multi-generational demographic of vacationers.

USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards are determined by a panel of travel experts and confirmed by a public vote. The Doo Wop Experience Museum’s consistent presence on this list reflects both its historical significance and its enduring popularity with the American traveling public.
