Prominent New Jersey law firm Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer, P.A. has announced a strategic addition to its leadership team, welcoming Alexander Hemsley III as a Shareholder in the firm’s Woodbridge headquarters.
Hemsley joins the Business and Commercial Litigation team, bringing a wealth of experience in navigating high-stakes civil litigation across both state and federal courts. His arrival marks a continued push by Wilentz—one of the state’s largest and most storied firms—to deepen its expertise in complex regulatory and employment law.
Hemsley’s practice is defined by his ability to handle “high-stakes” matters that intersect with heavy government oversight. His core areas of focus include:
- Labor & Employment: Representing clients in disputes involving ERISA and the Taft-Hartley Act.
- Environmental Litigation: Navigating the technical complexities of CERCLA, RCRA, and the New Jersey Spill Compensation and Control Act.
- Land Use & Redevelopment: Advising on the legal hurdles of property development and urban revitalization.
Beyond these specialties, Hemsley has a proven track record in appellate matters, representing a diverse roster of businesses, organizations, and individuals facing challenging legal obstacles.
The leadership at Wilentz noted that Hemsley’s background in multi-jurisdictional litigation makes him a natural fit for the firm’s expanding footprint.
“We are happy to welcome Alex to the firm,” Ed Kole, chair of the Business and Commercial Litigation team said. “Alex strengthens the team’s ability to serve clients facing complex commercial disputes and is a welcome asset to the department.”
Founded in 1919 by David T. Wilentz, the firm has been a fixture of the New Jersey legal landscape for over a century. Known for its involvement in landmark cases and high-profile transactions, Wilentz operates offices in Woodbridge, Perth Amboy, Red Bank, New York City, and Philadelphia.
The addition of Hemsley is seen as a strategic reinforcement of the firm’s commitment to providing sophisticated counsel to clients in an increasingly complex regulatory environment.
