In a move designed to consolidate engineering expertise in the southern half of the Garden State, PS&S has announced an employee and practice transfer agreement with Swedesboro-based Marathon Engineering.
The strategic alignment effectively absorbs Marathon’s specialized professional team into the PS&S platform, immediately scaling the firm’s civil engineering, environmental, and surveying capabilities across Southwest and Central New Jersey.

The deal allows PS&S, a 64-year-old architectural and engineering powerhouse, to secure a veteran “bench” of mid-level and senior technical staff at a time when the industry faces a critical shortage of experienced engineering talent.
“This agreement adds valuable technical depth to our organization in this region of the state,” John Sartor, president and CEO of PS&S said. “By integrating these experienced professionals into PS&S, we are enhancing our ability to deliver responsive, high-quality service while continuing to build on our long-term growth strategy.”
Marathon Engineering has long been a staple of the Swedesboro business community, providing site development and environmental services to a wide array of industrial and commercial clients. Under the new agreement, those projects will transition to the PS&S platform without a lapse in service.
Rick Riccardi, founder of Marathon Engineering, noted that the move provides his long-term clients with access to a larger multidisciplinary engine. “Our clients’ projects that we have served for many years will continue without interruption,” Riccardi stated. “PS&S’ depth of expertise and technology resources will provide a strong base for future growth in this region.”
By folding Marathon’s practice into its existing operations, PS&S is positioning itself to be the primary partner for the complex infrastructure and logistics projects driving the economy in Southwest Jersey.
Strategic benefits of the transfer:
- Talent Retention: Secures a team of senior engineers familiar with the local regulatory landscape.
- Regional Dominance: Strengthens the firm’s footprint in the Swedesboro and I-295 industrial corridors.
- Multidisciplinary Reach: Combines Marathon’s local site knowledge with PS&S’ broad architecture and design resources.
As Sartor emphasized, the priority is a smooth integration that preserves local relationships while offering Marathon’s professionals the resources of a larger, collaborative organization. The move ensures that the “South Jersey growth engine” remains fueled by a robust, locally anchored technical team.
