More than 80 local children experienced an unforgettable morning of sports and mentorship this past Saturday as Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jordan Davis made a surprise appearance at a flag football clinic held at The Salvation Army Camden Kroc Center.
The event, led by coaches from GB Elite Flag Football, offered participants a chance to sharpen their football fundamentals, run professional-style drills, and compete in scrimmages. The energy in the gymnasium reached new heights when Davis arrived to join the young athletes on the field.
Addressing the children and their families, Davis emphasized the importance of community support and personal dedication. He shared that his own athletic journey began with flag football, and he encouraged the participants to embrace the lessons learned through the sport.
“I appreciate your parents coming out here today. Without you and without their sacrifice, none of this would be possible,” Davis said to the group, urging the kids to make the most of the opportunity to learn and have fun.
This visit is part of a long-standing commitment Davis has to the region; he has returned to the Kroc Center on multiple occasions to participate in various programs supporting children and families throughout Camden.
The clinic served as the inaugural event for a new partnership between The Salvation Army Camden Kroc Center and GB Elite Flag Football, which aims to provide more consistent athletic opportunities for local youth.
“We were grateful to welcome Jordan Davis and his mother, Shay, to the Kroc Center,” said Major Richard Sanchez, Administrator of The Salvation Army Camden Kroc Center. “Sports have a unique way of bringing people together, and opportunities like this help build confidence, strengthen relationships, and create lasting memories for our youth.”
John Bond, Co-Founder of GB Elite Flag Football, echoed those sentiments. “Football is the vehicle, but our goal is to help young people build confidence, discipline, teamwork, and perseverance,” Bond said. “We’re grateful to partner with The Salvation Army Camden Kroc Center and excited about the opportunities ahead for Camden youth.”
The event was further supported by The Campbell’s Company and Costco Cherry Hill, who provided snacks to keep the young athletes fueled throughout the drills.
