Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill is expected to announce Monday morning that she will nominate Jennifer Davenport to serve as attorney general of New Jersey, according to reports.
Davenport, 50, is the deputy general counsel and chief litigation counsel at PSEG, but she has years of federal and state experience.
Davenport served as first assistant attorney general under Gurbir Grewal (from 2018-20), spent nearly seven years as an assistant U.S. Attorney, and almost three years as an attorney for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
Word of Davenport’s expected nomination was first reported by David Wildstein and the New Jersey Globe late Sunday night.
Sherrill is expected to make an announcement this morning, the Globe reported.
Davenport, whose nomination needs to be confirmed, will replace Matt Platkin, whose term expires on Jan. 20, 2026, when Sherrill takes office.
A graduate of DeSales University and Seton Hall Law School, Davenport clerked for U.S. District Court Chief Judge John Bissell. She worked as a litigation associate at Latham & Watkins and Patton Boggs, two prominent American law firms.
