In a massive expansion of its health and wellness footprint, Flynn Group LP announced it acquired Grand Fitness Partners. The deal includes 98 Planet Fitness locations across five states—with a significant impact right here in New Jersey, where Flynn has acquired 14 local clubs as part of the transaction.
The move more than triples the size of the operator’s fitness footprint, moving Flynn Group firmly into position as one of the largest operators within the massive Planet Fitness system.
While the deal covers nearly 100 gyms spanning California, Florida, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and New Jersey, the local impact is substantial. By securing the 14 Planet Fitness clubs in the state Flynn Group expands its reach to a heavily populated corner of the Northeast.
Prior to this deal, Flynn entered the fitness arena in 2023 with the purchase of a 37-club franchise across Massachusetts and Georgia. This current acquisition dramatically builds upon that baseline, pushing Flynn’s total network to 141 clubs across seven states.
Flynn Group, widely recognized as the world’s largest franchise operator, sees the move as a natural expansion of its core retail and service business.
“We’re very excited to welcome the Grand Fitness teams and clubs into the Flynn Group family,” Greg Flynn, founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Flynn Group said. “Health and wellness are on the minds of consumers more than ever before, and fitness is a natural complement to our core restaurant business.”
Flynn added that the acquisition aligns perfectly with the company’s long-term goals. “When we acquired the Alder Partners franchise in 2023 and established Flynn Fitness, we did so knowing there was significant opportunity to grow with the brand. This acquisition meaningfully expands our presence in the Planet Fitness system and allows us to reach and support even more customers on their fitness journeys.”
Planet Fitness corporate leadership expressed heavy enthusiasm about Flynn Group’s deepening commitment to the brand. With more than 2,800 locations across all 50 states, the fitness giant operates on a high-value, low-price model aimed at all fitness levels.
“Flynn Group is a proven, accomplished operator and a valued franchisee,” Colleen Keating, Planet Fitness chief executive officer said. “We look forward to building on our relationship as they grow the Flynn Fitness portfolio and deliver strong club performance across their expanding footprint.”
